We now have for the guests of the campsite is also a scenic motorbike compiled on good roads, which passes the largest menhirs in the Iberian Peninsula. The largest menhir of the iberic peninsula

To surrender this is a kind of sanctuary from the Neolithic period and it was a location to serve to worship the gods. It is just outside the municipality of Beira, in the municipality of Castelo de Vide. This unique historical monument was discovered in 1965, it was found broken and repaired. The form allows researchers a hypothesize that it is a representation of a myth around the symbol of fertility in the neo-Catholic period. Thus confirming that an affluent society was established here.

Inside the municipality Marvao we also have a menhir, at Aguas de Cuba, this is clearly smaller one, but possibly very deep in the ground? There is no answer to this question. Marvao believes the menir Aguas de Cuba to be the smallest menhir of this southern part of Europe.

These unique characters with a spiritual relationship to the faith were – so says tradition – often used in this form in order to form the formations of megaliths, so to dig. They are also seen individully, which has a role as a sanctuary.

They have the special shape at both the bottom and top. These menhirs – with a history devised 40,000 to 45,000 years to go back – would thus serve as a sign of sanctuary where one then in the immediate vicinity of it a practiced kind of religion.

Regarding the historical significance of such a piece to indicate visible history: the general awareness about the prehistoric period in the history goes back to the time when man was represented by Australopithecus, which is 5 million years ago.

Others see the representation of the Homo Sapiens and that goes back to 3 million years ago and which, one way or the other, period ended at around 3300 years BC.

More of our guests do story about their experience in the presence of the Menhir, especially by those huge ones? It could go to the deep inner feelings that are experienced in the spheres with Zen meditation.
